Simple Dragon Age D&D Campaign Name: “Age of Thedas”
Setting: The campaign is set in the world of Thedas, a land filled with political intrigue, ancient magic, and powerful dark forces. You can choose a specific era in Dragon Age lore or create your own parallel timeline.
Plot Overview: The campaign centers around a group of adventurers who are drawn into the epic struggles of Thedas. Here’s a basic storyline:
Introduction: The players are introduced to the world of Thedas, each having a unique background. They are brought together through a shared vision or encounter with a mysterious artifact — a shard of the Veil or an ancient artifact of power.
Main Quest:
- The Blight Returns: A darkspawn horde is once again on the rise, and it’s up to the players to gather allies, seek ancient Grey Warden knowledge, and stop the Blight’s advance.
- The Political Game: Intrigue and power struggles are at their height. The players become involved in the political conflicts between the Chantry, the mages, the Templars, and the various nations.
- The Inquisition: A new organization, similar to the Inquisition in Dragon Age: Inquisition, is formed. The players are instrumental in building it up and dealing with supernatural threats, as well as reconciling the political disputes in Thedas.
- The Old Gods: An awakening of the Old Gods threatens Thedas, and the players must uncover the ancient secrets and confront these divine beings.
Side Quests:
- Companion Quests: Each player character has a unique companion or mentor whose personal quests add depth to the story.
- Ancient Ruins: Exploring the ancient Elven ruins or Dwarven Thaigs can reveal hidden knowledge or threats.
- Mage and Templar Conflict: The players can choose to mediate or participate in the ongoing conflict between mages and Templars.
- The Dalish and the Qunari: Interactions with different races and cultures of Thedas can provide unique challenges and opportunities.
Endgame: The campaign’s climax involves a major confrontation with a powerful enemy, such as a High Dragon, an Archdemon, or a malevolent Old God, as well as resolving the political struggles of Thedas. The fate of the world is in the players’ hands.
Important Locations:
- Ferelden: The players can visit the capital city of Denerim, the Circle Tower, and the Korcari Wilds.
- Orlais: The opulent city of Val Royeaux and the Orlesian court offer opportunities for political intrigue.
- Kirkwall: Explore the city where Dragon Age 2 was set, facing challenges related to mage-Templar conflicts.
- Skyhold: Establish the Inquisition headquarters, customize it, and gather allies.
Important NPCs:
- Morrigan: Seek her wisdom on darkspawn and magic.
- Varric Tethras: Receive guidance and stories from the famous author.
- Leliana: Work with her as Spymaster of the Inquisition.
- Cassandra Pentaghast: Act as Right Hand of the Divine.
Friendly Reminder: Don’t forget to adapt D&D mechanics to fit the Dragon Age setting, including the magic system, races, and classes. It’s important for immersion and enjoyability to provide opportunities for players to interact with Dragon Age lore, factions, and characters, while also allowing for their own stories and choices to shape the campaign. Even more so with Dragon Age: Dreadwolf on the horizon!
